VPS General

A virtual private server (VPS) is a virtual machines running on a physical computer. Each physical computer might run serveral Virtual Private Servers. Although a VPS runs in software, it is in many respects functionally equivalent to a physical computer. A VPS has the privacy of a physical computer and can be configured to run server software.
It depends on the web hosting panels you are going to install. If you want to use cPanel/WHM or DirectAdmin, you have to go for a Linux VPS. Parallels Plesk Panel can be installed either on Windows or Linux. Currently servers running one of Linux distributions are most polular for the security or economical reasons. Most Linux distributions are free but for a Windows installation you'll need to buy a license to activate it.
512M and 1G plans (with 512 MB and 1 GB of RAM) are suitable for hosting a number of small or medium websites. For running a few large websites, VPS.3 plan or higher is strongly recommended.
Yes, you'll need to order a license to use these panels.

There are the steps you can take to almost always solve your VPC connection problems by yourself in the case you cannot connect normally using SSH (for Linux servers) or RDP (for Windows servers):

1. Try to connect using Console. it's accessible in your Client Area and then by clicking on 'Manage' button for your server. What you see via Console is similar to your physical PC screen; you can see any error message etc which prevents your server from functionning normally.

2. If Console is also not working, or you cannot solve the problem, try rebooting your server using 'Reboot' button in your Client Area at the same address as mentioned above. Wait some time after reboot to make sure the server is booted thoroughly before trying to connect again.

3. If after reboot you still cannot connect to your server neither normally nor via Console, then most probably your server's Operating System must be damaged. If your data on your server is not important to you, then you can install OS (Windows or Linux) in your VPS Manager. Otherwise, please contact our support team.

In Windows Systems:

If you use a Windows System (as your Personal Computer), you can use PuTTY to connect to your Linux Server using SSH protocol. You can download PuTTY using the link below:

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

After running PuTTY, you need to Configuration and enter your IP address (Default SSH port is 22). Then you can login as root and enter your root password.

In Linux or Mac Systems:

You don't need and external application. Just Open Terminal and then type

ssh root@your-ip-address

to login as root. in the next step, you need to enter your root password.

The best way to coonect to a Windows Server is using 'Remote Desktop Connection' application pre-installed in Windows (You need to manually install it on Mac).

All you need to do is open the application, enter your IP address as 'Computer field and Administrator as 'User name'. In the next step, you have to enter your Administrator password.

In Properties, 'Local Resources' tab, you can choose which local resources )printers, hard drives etc you want to share with your server.

Yes, you can. All you need to place your order and open a support ticket with a link to download your ISO file and we'll mount it as virtual CD-ROM to your server.
